Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the opinions of the professionals who will shape the Open and Distance Learning field in the future about Metaverse and how education will take place in Metaverse. In this study, which was designed as a case study, the holistic single case design was preferred. The research was carried out with the candidates who made a doctorate in the Department of Distance Education. The data obtained as a result of the unstructured interviews with the participants were analyzed with the content analysis technique. According to the results of the analysis, the opinions of the participants on the definition of Metaverse; It is united in 4 different themes: ontological framework, social and economic framework, ethical framework and metaphorical framework. The views of the participants on education in Metaverse were revealed in 8 different themes: learner readiness, learner advantages, teacher roles and competencies, education type, environment, tools and technologies, content and design, and skills that can be gained to the learner. These themes and their sub-themes were shared by quoting directly from the participant's views.
